Raising a Number to a Power (Exponentiation)
|
The yX
key lets you raise a positive number to any power automatically. In
many calculators you’d have to perform the serial calculation
multiplying the base number a
number of times equal to the exponent (if you could do it at allJ).
That is, 8 × 8 × 8 × 8 × 8 × 8 means 86. To make it easier, we have you
enter the base number, press SAVE , enter the value of the power to which the base number is to be raised, press yX and the result is displayed. For example, to find the value
of 86,

Note the blurred display, as opposed to blinking, during the
calculation. This indicates the calculator is busy, and occurs when
performing yx or other functions
in the HP-80 which use yx.
