What is Emu42?

Emu42 is a freeware emulator of the Hewlett Packard calculators HP-42S, HP-28S, HP-27S, HP-19BII, HP-17BII and HP-17B. It comes in two versions, one for Windows (9X/ME/2000/XP) and one for Pocket PC 2002 both as binary and source code.
  • For an overview of Emu42 see this article A User's Comments on Two HP-42S Emulators (PDF 865K)
originally published in the HPCC Datafile V23 N1
  • For a detailed description of functions and features of Emu42 see the Emu42 manual (PDF 36K)
  • To see how Emu42 looks like there is a set of screenshots from the Windows and the Pocket PC 2002 versions.
  • Benchmarks with comparisons to the real HP-42S can be found here

What is Emu42 not?
  • Important - Emu42 does not come with any ROM images! In order to use Emu42 you must yourself dump the ROM of your calculator. This will remain this way unless HP changes its policy in this question. Please do not disturb the author with questions regarding ROM images!
  • Although developed for Pocket PC 2002 (e.g. StrongArm SA1110) there are reports of successful usage also on Pocket PC 2003 1st Ed (Xscale 400MHz). There are however no reports on the behaviour on the newer Bulverde CPUs, with VGA resolutions (640x480) screens or with the landscape screen orientation on Pocket PC 2003 2nd Ed.

What is Emu48 for Pocket PC 2002?

Emu48 for Pocket PC 2002 is a freeware emulator of the Hewlett Packard calculators HP-48S/SX/G/G+/GX,  HP-49G, HP-38G, HP-39G and HP-40G. This is a new port by Christoph Giesselink of Emu48 to the Pocket PC platform. It resolves the problems with sluggishness from previous attempts at porting Emu48 to the Pocket PC. Except from a slightly different configuration of the menu options (the new version is closer to the Windows version) and small changes to how the KML files should be defined this version looks identical to the previous port by Leopoldo Bueno Castillo.
