Hello Jeff!
Here is a brief "how-to" for installing the MetaKernel onto an HP48GX (I tried it on my 48GX and it always worked fine):
1 > put a RAM card into slot 1 of the 48GX, with the calc switched off
2 > switch on the calc
3 > Initialize the RAM card by pressing LeftShift+LIBRARY / NEXT / PINIT (see page 28-14 of the HP 48 G Series User's Guide)
4 > Merge the memory in slot 1 by pressing LeftShift+LIBRARY / MERG (see page 28-16 of the HP 48 G Series User's Guide)
5 > Connect the cable first to the PC and then to the calc
6 > On the 48 GX press RightShift+I/O
7 > Choose "Transfer" on the menu and press the "OK" softkey
8 > Set the parameters as follows:
PORT: Wire
TYPE: Kermit
NAME: “void”
FMT: Bin
XLAT: Newl
CHK: 3
BAUD: 9600
PARITY: None
OVRW: no flag
9 > Push the "NEXT" softkey
10 > push the "OK" softkey
11 > Press RightShift+RightArrow: on the display of the 48GX you'll see the message "Awaiting Server Cmd"
12 > start the HP Connectivity Kit (version 3.0r4) on the PC
13 > In the PC window select the directory where the two files of the MetaKernel are stored
14 > Drag-and-drop the file RECV.KER on the HOME directory of the 48GX
15 > The transfer starts - on the display of the 48GX you can read the message
"Receiving RECV.KER
Packet # ...."
16 > The calc will receive about 10 packets for the file RECV.KER (average transfer rate = 150 cps)
17 > When the transfer ends, on the display of the 48GX the message "Awaiting Server Cmd" is shown again
18 > Drag-and-drop the file MKRAM.KER on the HOME directory of the 48GX
19 > The transfer starts - on the display of the 48GX you can read the message
"Receiving MKRAM.KER
Packet # ...."
20 > The calc will receive about 2099 packets for the file RECV.KER (average transfer rate = 150 cps)
21 > When the transfer ends, on the display of the 48GX the message "Awaiting Server Cmd" is shown again
22 > press "ON" to exit the transfer mode on the 48GX
23 > digit 'MKRAM.KER' on the 48GX (remember to enter the first and the last tick: '...')
24 > Press the softkey corrsponding to the RECV.KER program
25 > Within a few seconds the MetaKernel will be installed on the calc
Hope this helps.
Best regards.
