6S Question

Post: #3

Please, no tomatoes for a 6S question.

Is the 6S suposed to shut down after no activity for a few minutes in the dark, or does it just stay on until the battery is dead? A friend's seems determined to stay on, even in the dark.

Are you referring to the HP 6S or the HP 6S Solar?

I have an HP 6S Solar, and it will not turn off. I read some threads here that seem to indicate that being an "always-on" calculator is an advantage. However, I had to replace the battery on mine when I first received it so that it would work in low light.

Hi,

From my experience the unit stays on even in the dark,

maybe until the backup battery is empty.

I got a 6S Solar as a present many years ago,

punched in a few numbers, and these are still in

the calc's display memory after all those years.

After all, it's a throw-away calc,

so if the batteries are empty,

it's cheaper to buy a new 6S (aka Texet ALBERT)

than to replace the batts.

Just a quesion : how do you know that an LCD calc is on **in the dark** ??
Probably NOT because the number on display is still there after a period in the dark, otherwise my 42S has been on for the last few years. So ?

The 6S Solar has a little solar panel in the corner. You can easily cover up the solar panel, which should have the exact same effect as putting the calc in the dark. If the display stays on regardless -- and I think you will find that it does -- then you can assume that it will stay on in the dark as well.
