New version of SandMath-III


Just to let you all (interested) know that a new version of the SandMath-III module is available at the usual site.

Also added to the module image are the QRG and the "blueprints" (i.e. source code listings).

Hope you find it useful, enjoy!



Can you let us knon the difference between the old and the new version? Why didn´t you change the CAT2 outpout to verify the version?

Please, forgive me asking this particular question: is it available through TOS? If so, is it just to follow existing SandMath-III link?

In time, I asked for a copy of the QRG and did not receive it (maybe I spelled the wrong e-mail address). Is the QRG available through TOS, too?

(BTW, the 41Z.ROM is a wonderfull achievement, congratulations. Do you think that separating a block of, say, six registers in main memory, like it is done with appointments and assignments, and use these registers to emulate a complete, four-register complex stack would enlarge too much the original 41Z size? I mean, considering that separating a block of registers this way is possible. Just one thought...)

Yes, everything is available at TOS (ROM image, QRG, and blueprints). Just go to the What's new section and there you'll see it.

As per enhancements to the 41Z, yes of course a 4-level complex stack will be a quantum leap (not that it doesn't work fine now, with its 2,5 level). Better yet than reserving a block of registers I thought about a dedicated memory buffer to hold the imaginary parts. Size won't be a problem (the ROM isn't full by far), but afraid time is... will have to wait for a while given my current time-management crunch!

than you for your guidance. Also, thanks to Matthias, who helpped me as well through e-mail.

About the virtual stack, some facts called my attention. The CCD-ROM allows creating matrices in two ways: one is by 'marking' regular, existing registers, and the other is by creating specific files in X-memory, both ways to hold matrices data. The HP41 itself uses 'uncommited' registers to store either assignments or appointments. Also, the HP15C uses some sort of parallel technic to handle imaginary stack registers. That's why I thought about the 4-level complex stack. And implementing it might lead to a detailed look at how to handle uncommited registers when using complex resources, and mostly how to leave them back to the operating system without disturbing.

Just guesses, I never programmed in MCODE. And thinking of the fact that this is a specific, 26 Y.O. technology, makes me think of the time spent to assimilate it...

creating and maintaining a buffer for the complex parts

and some status data wouldn't be a problem.

Just use the least expensive buffer maintaining routine.

The one of the CCD ROM is too complicated for this,

because it has to handle several additional things,

like seeds, matrices, other buffers, etc...

Maybe the one of the Extended IL or the Advantage Pac

should be suitable, using an appriorate buffer number, of course;-)

the two PDFs ...low and ...up start with "PDF-1.6" and cause my older Acrobat Reader to fail. I've no way of upgrading. Would it be possible to recreate the document with an older PDF level (PDF-1.4, like the QRG?)




did you try upgrading to a more current Acrobat version? As far as I know you can get it free from the Adobe site.

I was wondering how you create the blueprints. Do you use a special tool for this or is it handwork (all the arrows) in Excel or Word?

...only if you run Windows as your main system; mine is OS/2. I can still read the docs on one of my other computers. I'll probably print them out from my Mac mini.

PDF-4 is fine, the QRG opens without problems. What are the reasons to prepare the blueprints in the new PDF format? Any formatting which is not possible with older versions?
