Need help - HP 17BII cleaning

Post: #5

Hi all. Has anyone successfully opened an HP 17BII to clean it? I bought one used from a fellow locally, and it works, but some of the keys stick, or need several presses before they work.

I would like to try and open and clean it to see if that helps, but I cannot figure out how to get it apart.

Thanks in advance.

You may try a slightly damp cloth, but remember to dry the keys immediatley after you do. Also repeated presses show loosen the stuck key.

Thanks for your response. I am still trying to figure out how to actually get the calculator open so I can clean the insides. Any thoughts?

Selim, it easy to open a pioneer calculator, however, you can not get to the keys just by opening the case. There are lots of threads in the archives about opening and cleaning keys. I would start by removing the batteries and dipping it into an ultrasonic cleaner. If you dont have one of those, I have used distilled water with good success. I drop the whole calculator under the water, press the keys and clean with a toothbrush. Shake it out, towl dry and then let it air dry for two days before I but the batteries back in. This method goes against common sense, but I have never had a problem with it.
