Battery change on HP200LX

Sorry to bother with low level questions, but it's the second time I change the main batteries on my HP200LX and again it doesn't want to switch back on.

Last time I had to pull the backup battery to relive it (losing all my stuff - yes the 4 Mb version).

When I press [ON] it just beeps and nothing happens.
I last switched it off with [ON] (and not [Shift] [OFF]) and maybe this makes a difference ?

Either it powers back on correctly or gets back in its box and lets me expand my collection of batteries.

The only time I've had this activity is when the main batteries are nearly dead.

But I assume yours are now fresh and new.

Did you leave any applications active (especially DOS) when you changed the battery?
