cases for Pioneers

#3

I recently bought a 14B and a 32B, both from 1988. Surprisingly (to me), they both have very cheap plastic slip cases, heat welded along the periphery with a fake stitched seam.

My question is: for how long were these cases used before being replaced with the much nicer padded and stitched type used until today. I don't think it was for very long as my 14B Anniversary from 1989 has the second-version case.

My experience and assumption have been: the cheapest, thinnest vinyl cases were provided with the lowest-end Pioneers, and the thicker, padded, stitched version was provided with the more expensive models.

I don't think I've yet seen one with a "fake stitched seam", however. Maybe there are more types of cases (and more variation in their bundling) than my experience indicates.
