HP-32SII Viewing Angle

Just changed the batteries in my 32SII and the viewing angle went wacko. I can tell it powers on/off by looking at an extreme angle.

How do you change the viewing angle. I'm sure my manuals are in some box somewhere, but...

Hi, Jay;

please, do this:

with the calculator on, press and hold [ON] key;

press either [+] (enhance) or [-] (reduce) keys to change contrast (and find the best viewing angle);

after setting the contrast as you want, release the [ON] key;

That did it. Thx much.

Once you mentioned it, I realized I knew this, but it has been many years since I had to adjust the contrast on one of my calculators.

However... now that I can see the screen, I find that, literally, everything is on. The micro appears to be working properly since I see variations as I press keys and can sort of make out the answers if I know what I'm looking for ahead of time. Must be display related. Guess I'll have to crack the case and look.

in some cases, briefly shortenning the calculator battery connectors (with batteries inserted to prevent ESD dammage) brings the calculator back to normal operation. If you don't care for a memory loss...

Thx again. Didn't have to do this, but I will keep it in mind. It is working properly now, though.

I removed the batteries and started prying gingerly to see how the casing was put together. I had just identified the catch points when I decided to see if you had responded. When I put the batteries back in as preperation for trying your method, the calculator came alive properly.

Apparently my prying reseated whatever had come loose from the display. The results of my prior key entries was present in the display, confirming the micro was performing properly, but the display was not.
