HP Reveals Winners of Second Annual "Create-a-Calculator" Contest
Interestingly, the winner called his calculator the 42X. It is not what you were expecting…
The young man appears to certainly have put much thought and hours into his project.

Where's the beaf? I could be blind but I don't see any calculator design on that web site. I want images not just text. Chris W

I can't help but making this comment: How many of us have said, "I want HP to make a 42Sii (or 42s_)!" Hmm, perhaps this 42x is what we are looking forward to. Me, I will probably wait for Qonos (This probably sounds very bitter, but it is not meant to be bitter at all)

I'm disappointed because it lacks a satellite dish receiver, to allow for watching sports TV channels, one of the most required features for a scientific calculator. Perhaps great sports events (football, boxing, baseball, hockey, etc.) could also be delivered via ROM-based modules. (The financial calculator version will use the dish receiver to obtain current stock quotations, and the ROM modules for reality shows) ▼

Batteries will last enough to move from one room to the other.

Touch screen? I hate 'em! And wireless remote keyboard? Why not just build the calculator into the keyboard like everyone did 30 years ago? ▼

Ji Garth, I think the wireless keyboard is a great idea--my co-worker thought of that just last week while I was showing him some ideas. It eliminates the clambshell problem, and makes it possible to have a very compact package which expands to be large enough to have good keys and a good screen. Best regards, bill |
