You folks have been very helpful to me with respect to HP12C Lineage. First, can someone tell me when the US made 12C Production Line closed?
Secondly, let me explain. I have used a 10B for many years and it has been great. But I am entering a Finance Program at UCLA (interested in Finance, not planning on doing pro) but they require a 12C. I imagine because it is what the profs are familiar with. Actually, in terms of user friendliness I prefer the 17BII but I want to work on the same platform as most others in the finance field. So if I must get a 12C and will be using it for a while, I want a lineage that is solid. I know that if I want a Singipore manuf 17BII they are still easy to come by as they stopped production much more recently than the US 12C but I don't want to constantly have to convert from classwork based on the 12C, same situation with my 10B. My 10B for whatever it is worth is US made in 1988! I guess in terms of function, the 12CP is more feature rich than the 12C but it is like a toy compared to the 12C. It really is a shame that HP still does not have their production lines and produce well made calculators. The post from Gene was very informative, however, I disagree with marketability. Prior to entering graduate school and building a career in the health care field, I was in the retail buying field dealing with several millions of dollars of merchandise. If the 12C cost $200 today and was of the same quality as the late 80s, I am sure the people out in the world that have original dying 12Cs know their value and would replace them. Is it conceivable that a financial pro would say, nope 12Cs are too much now, I am going to buy a TI BAII. I don't think so. Enduring quality always has a market and those looking for a cheap calculator are not likely to buy 12C! Just my 3 cents!
