Is this a hot deal? I haven't seen the 48-GII anywhere else for less than ~$100, so this is a ~23% savings... not shabby!

Is the GII compatable with the GX? ▼

The 48gII is a good machine. It is compatible with the 48gx, as much as the 49g and 49g+ are. It has been called a 49g-, since it is the same as the 49g+ but without USB and without flash ram and with 80K of available user ram. I happen to like this little guy. To see what it can do, go and download some of the 48gII learning modules from the hp calculator website: www.hp.com/calculators/graphing Choose the 48gII page and then click on the categories of learning modules on the right side of its page. The price/performance is best when you buy the hp 49g+. ▼

But at $77, the 49GII becomes a worthwhile alternative--you don't mind so much taking it on a ship or a survey job and destroying it. It's standard price is too high.
I will bet that what is going on is HP is exploring to find the best price point--and I hypothesize that they will make much more money on this model if they sell it cheap.
I might just get one! It is handy to have a small device with a serial interface. It just might do in some cases--our laptops are so easily damaged or batteries drained--especially in airport security! ▼

Maybe I aught to rethink my sanguine thoughts on the 48GII--apparently the serial connection really is not up to the task. See the thread, http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/forum.cgi?read=56055 "HP 48GII and 49G+" posted by Joe Edwards and answered (down the thread) by Ron Ross.

BE CAREFUL WHEN SHOPPING AT OUTPOST.COM!!! I decided I would like a back up calc and thought that the 48GII might fit the bill. With the nice price, I decided to order it with overnight shipping. Airborne/DHL attempted delivery at the wrong house!!! I called them after noticting a delivery attempt was mentioned on the Airborne website. They contacted the driver and he came to the correct house, but the package was late, by Airborne's very standards. I spoke with Airborne and they said yes, that they would refund the money back to Outpost.com since the package was late. I next called Outpost.com two (2) different times. The first guy stated that the delivery was okay as long as it arrived by 5pm and that I needed to recheck the delivery type again. I rechecked the info (overnight AM delivery) and proceded to call them back. This time a woman told me that they would NOT refund my delivery fees for a package that was 5 minutes late. It was actually 25 minutes late. ALSO, it wouldn't have arrived at all today if I hadn't gotten on Airbornes case to redeliver the pack TO THE CORRECT ADDRESS. I pushed the issue with the woman since I used to work as a liaison between two differnt companies and the major delivery carriers. She called airborne and then agreed to refund me the difference between overnight and 2-day delivery. Strange, a minute before she stated they wouldn't do anything for me! I refused the offer and now I a waiting for a supervisor to call me back. I have a strong feeling I will be taking this directly to the BBB and my credit card company. Now, I KNOW that Outpost is going to file a late delivery refund request, so they will get $13.00 back from Airborne, yet they are only willing to offer me $3.00. What is wrong with this picture?
Lesson learned. It is ironic that the very company that clearly states, "Any Questions? Just Call Us! Joe |
