HP 41C Glue

I have a HP 41CV which has a cracked screw hole on the foil side of the keyboard half of the case. This prevents the battery flex circuit from making reilable contact. Does anyone know what type of glue can be used to repair this type of plastic. What type of plastic is it anyway? I tried super glue, J B Weld, Plas-T-Pair. Whatever HP used was good stuff. I have a failed rechargable battery pac for the calculator & tried to seperate the case at the glue line & was unsucessful.

Any suggestions on repairing the crack would be appreciated.

Suggest you review the repair instructions on this site for this condition as a start. Repair includes using a wire wrapped around the post to reinforce, along with other possible variations including epoxy (note walmart carries an special epoxy mix just for plastic) depending on how much material is left.

I posted a similar message on this forum some time ago, but I wasn't overly happy with any of the solutions proposed in the responses/emails I received. Here's my recommendations after pursuing the problem for some time after. The first solution to try is : longer screws. Apparently HP used to sell a "long screw kit" to rectify this problem. I have never has any luck using glue alone, so you may want to try the glue and wire approach, which I have never tried. Alternatively, you can try a method I came up with to completely replace the screw post with nylon. It is fiddly and time consuming, but the results are good. Mail me if you want details.

I work in a watches company, and recently had a 41CX repaired for the same problem. They used Cyanolit glue, it worked perfectly and almost instantenously. Don't put too much of it as it solds the plastic.
