HP 19C

#4

I've finally taken my HP 19C out of storage and find there is corrosion on the battery terminal. I've cleaned it off a little, plugged in the charger, and it works when plugged in only. I assume I need a new battery and to clean it. If I'm thinking of selling it, is it better to sell as is and let the new owner clean it up? Is there a refurbish center for these? The serial number is 1805S12609. I have the soft case, Owners Handbook, and the Applications Book. I'm open to suggestions. I'm not a collector of calculators. Thank you.

Neil,

First of all, it is best not to turn on the 19C again until a working battery pack has been inserted and proper contact with the terminals has been verified. If the calculator is subjected to overvoltage due to a non-functioning or improperly connected battery (the battery both regulates and filters charger voltage), it'll probably die in short order.

I'm not aware of a 'refurbish center', some of us nutcases here restore calculators and rebuild batteries but mainly for fun, not for profit. (Note that this doesn't mean free... we're nutcases, not fools :-))

From our perspective, it is best if you sell your calculator as is, and let someone who knows what he's doing do the cleaning up. From your perspective, you may get a marginally higher price with a 'mint' calculator, but of course if the clean-up attempt results in damage, the price will likely be lower!

Yes, I agree with Viktor.

You're better off selling it as is, I think you made a goos description, because any unfortunate attempt would decrease the value of this calculator that is rather high.
