Seriously:

The 49G wasn't able to print, and the 49G+/48GII are just the 'successors' of the 49G.

But I don't have the manual of the 49G+, maybe it's simply incomplete.

You could take a look in the area for I/O features, because printing should be explained there, at least if the machine can actually print...

Thank you both for responding. There is a degreee of frustration with HP and the lack of proper documentation. If a feature is included then it should be supported. A simple 'not supported' or 'supported later' would even help. It makes no sense to have a print feature to accomadate an oblolete printer. Is there a good work-around? Maybe printing to a PC local printer while linked via IR.

Well, the 82240A/B printers may be "obsolete" in a sense, but there are still plenty of them in use, and in my opinion it makes a lot of sense to support them. If you want something a bit newer, see http://www.martelinstruments.com/cased.html#MCP8800.

"Letter-sized" printers are nice, but I still like something more or less "hand-held" sized for use with a hand-held sized calculator.

But yes, it would indeed be nice if the 49g+ could print in IrDA mode as well as Red-Eye mode. For all I know, there might even be a way to do it; I just don't have anything else with IrDA to experiment with.

Am I correct in thinking that you have IrDA on your PC? If so, can you use HyperTerminal PE with the IrDA? Maybe "Capture to Printer" would work?

Documentation & Support is what is missing in the picture. Perhaps there is a new IR printer in the future...or maybe USB support for the photosmart printers! I have an omnibook 800 with IRda but does not work with my deskjet 350 however my 620 does. That's the printer I'd like to use.

The 49G can't print via IR of course, but it does print via wire just like a 48 does. Well, except that XON/XOFF flow control doesn't work on the 49G.

The transmitted signal on either the 48 series or 49G is somewhat below what RS-232 calls for, but I've never had a problem printing to my Epson printers or "printing" to HyperTerminal PE on the PC.

The 49g+ prints to the 82240A/B via IR in "Red-Eye" format (but with a very limited range, 2 or 3 inches), but lacks anything like an RS-232 serial port. So if you want to print to a more conventional printer, you pretty well need a USB host to relay the data.

So far as I know, the 49g+ doesn't have a mode to print via IrDA; rather a shame.

My guess is that printing from a 48gII will be much like printing from the traditional 48 series, except probably with the severe range limitations of the 49g+ to the 82240A/B printers.

And yes, the 49g+ manuals are incomplete. I'd suggest using the 49g+ manuals along with the 48G series AUR and the 49G AUG.

I'm not sure if it's in the manual or not but the 49G+ does provide the same (I believe) printing capability of the 48 series. For example, I use it to print to an 82240B IR printer (using a DELAY of 1.8 s). You can use 107.01 MENU to get the print menu.
