It is not so bad, if the flexible cable between the battery pack and the circuits is broken. It can be replaced by 3 strips from thin multi core colored flat computer cable. You can make new connections on the tiny board in the calc. Just be sure you use a small soldering-iron of max. 20 watts. I have done this succesfully. Good luck.

I took the "Leap of Faith" and snapped it apart today. It is the early unslodered chips/LED segement type. I cleaned everything up and gently tack soldered the segment to the board (I think this is where the poor contact was as some of the segment sections didn't light up unless I tapped the calc.) Got it back together and it works great now! I thank everyone who responed to this for their help. I think the older woodstock types are MUCH easier to take apart :)
