Here's the scoop and what I have:
1. HP Pavilion 8860
2. ASUS A7V-VM (GAS, GLAS) oem motherboard with onboard sound
3. Onboard sound was VIA, KM133A chipset
4. Phoenix BIOS, recently updated
5. Processor is AMD Athlon 1G with 128 meg PC133 SDRAM
6. Graphics = AGP 4X, TNT2 Nvidia Vanta
7. HP CD Writer Plus LG CD RW- CD 8080B, Hitachi DVD ROM GD-7500
8. *** I installed PCI Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard
9. I had removed the VIA drivers, and disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS per instructions.
10. Sound works fine for MP3, games
11. No sound from audio CDs, in either the CD RW or DVD – they won’t play in mediaplayer, realsound, etc.
12. No sound when I plug headphones in the CD burner drive
13. DVDs play OK, sound included, in the DVD drive.
14. CD ROMS seem to read data OK, and I can burn data on a CDR OK.
15. ASUS HP oem motherboard had onboard sound - I disabled in the BIOS
16. CD ROM jumpers – I have tried leaving them in the motherboard, sound card and disconnected – no difference.
17. Games that require sound from CD don't seem to recognize a CD's in the drive.
Any ideas? Hate to take this to the shop!
