There is a snap catch inside the calculator near the bottom end of the keyboard. Lift the top end of the case so that it clears the battery contacts. Place your thumbs in the battery compartment and fingers on the front label edge of the keyboard. Then very firmly squeeze. You want to slide the calculator back towards the front of the machine so that the catch is released. It can take quite a bit of pressure.
