Does anyone know if there is a LEX file available for the 71b that provides RPN capability? If possible, a hex dump listing for use with the makelex program would be desirable.

I know I've asked a lot of 71b questions recently... I really appreciate eveyone's help.

The Forth ROM currently for sale @ebay will do this for you (plus a bunch of other fun things)

There is a LEX file called RPNLEX. Once you have this 1038 byte lexfile on your 71, you can enter an rpn calculator mode by typing RPN. Its fast, small, and can do trig and log functions.

Also, you won't have to bid on it...you can just type it in.

What are some of the fun things available within the Forth Rom?

I've tried the RPNLEX program as suggested by Andy, and want to say it is a great program. It adds RPN capabililty, with only a few sacrifices. I think with a few more additional functions, it would serve my needs very well.

Does anyone know how to make simple modifications in Forth?

Well actually I made a mistake.

It's the HP41 translator. Which is a special version of the Forth ROM.

The ROM effectively makes the 71B into a 41CX with a truckload of registers (I don't remeber how many but it's a lot, over 1000 I think). It takes old 41 programs via IL and runs them on the 71B

So this would definately make the 71B RPN capable.

On top it has a series of need functions you can read more about in this location. Beware, the Assembler is NOT included in this ROM.

The best way to dive into the particulars of the ROM without bying the ROM for sale on the BAY is to get hold of the precious CD set (or now DVD as well) that is made available via this great site.

The Archives of Forum has lot's of conversations about the Forth ROM versus the 41 Translator. The best place to dive is right here.
