HP49G Advanced user guide

#2

I received the following message after asking about getting hold of a paper copy of the A.U.G. and CAS manuals. Note it doesn't say how I can be put on a list to receive the manuals.

Anyone else know what's happening with these manuals? especially for non US buyers.

Dear Sir, here is the answer from HP headquarters:

The printed version has been sent out for production. They should be sent to the regions within the next couple of weeks. There is no option to request the AUG from the web form. It was only available on the inbox materials. These were only in the first units and have been removed. We have been putting people on a list of they request it in North America regardless of whether they have the offer. I'd suggest the same for your region.

So hopefully the AUG will be available soon.

Why wait. The english version is available on-line in .PDF format at the following URL:

I want the real thing for the following reasons:

1) Having a neatly bound paper copy of the AUG and the CAS manuals on the bookshelf to refer to when using the calculator is much better than a computer bound .pdf copy or a home made book.

2) After spending the money that an HP49G costs I don't want to be given the excuse of 'it is available on the web'. The web is better suited for distributing updates to the manuals and the FLASH ROM.

3) HP should not be allowed to get away with the pathetic user manual that comes with the calculator, the manual that comes with the HP32SII is about twice as thick and covers all the features. HP's reputation for supporting products has taken years to build. It can be destroyed in an instant.

I agree with all of Tom's points. I am a man from the old school who would rather get my information from a book than from a website. I have long worked with an HP 41 and I find its manuals far superior to the book that came with my HP 49G. I also prefer the feel and look of the 41.
