Yet another 41CX Display Problem...

#6

I have a 41CX Halfnut that appears to function properly, except the lower half of the display is very very faint/light. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try to fix or repair this? I tried reset ( [<-] [ON], then release [<-] ) which gives MEMORY LOST, which is normal, but still doesn't fix the faint display.

Much obliged!

Hi;

Maybe it is simply forced/bent in a way the lower part is dim. Have the calculator been opened and reassembled?

Just a guess.

Hi Vieira!
I opened and reassembled to try and fix, but to no avail. I cleaned the contacts, and even took another battery contact assembly from another calculator and tried it. I got the same result.
Much obliged!

If you have the fullnut version with the removeable LCD module (you have to unsolder 16 connections), you can actually disassemble the LCD module itself and clean the internal connections. The HP41 service manual on the HPMUSEUM CDROM tells how. This should be a last ditch thing to do as you can wind up with more problems than you started with.

Also the modules from a fullnut 41C or CV will work in the CX as long as they have the two round blobs of epoxy on them... very early 41C modules with square blobs are not directly compatible.

Unfortunately its a halfnut, and looks like not much can be done about it. <sigh>
