What is coma mode ([ON] [SPC]) in the HP48SX ?

I will appreciate it very much if someone can explain to me what is the difference between coma mode ([ON] [SPC]) to calculator off in the HP48SX. Thank you very much, Best regards, Tal. email: td@chem.ch.huji.ac.il

AFAIK this is a much deeper sleep than the OFF mode. As you can easily test, even the real time clock is halted in this mode. Memory contents are preserved.

This seems to be a tool for HP to keep batteries fresh in the shelves, so that the user can wakeup the machine after lying some months (or even years) somewhere in a store.

Other HP calculators seem to have similar modes, but I may be completely wrong at this point.
