HP Prime Save Power Turn Off Not Working

#2

The manual states:

Quote:
To save power, the calculator turns itself off after several minutes of inactivity. All stored and displayed information is saved.

I think this feature initially worked on my calculator (S/N:4CY34205DR), but never paid it too much attention. Recently, however, my real HP Prime is not turning itself off.

Is this something I could have inadvertently caused?

How might I restore this important feature?

Mine doesn't turn itself off, either. I'm not sure it ever did.

I confirm,
on my hp prime, at the begining all seems working but several days after :

1-the screen doesn't decrease it's brightness always at the same time, now it's random time.

2-sometimes, the hprime doesn't turn off automaticly after 15 minutes.

HP have to fix it, and if possible add a user menu to choose these two times.

about the energy : the battery bar at the top right corner of the screen give false information.

Have you tried inserting a paper clip into the reset hole at the back of Prime? If not, try it and see if there's any improvement.

Just in case it isn't obvious, it's not supposed to turn itself off when plugged into a powered USB cable. The display dims after 30 seconds, but it doesn't power down after 5 minutes. You probably knew that already, but just in case somebody didn't, there it is.

Does the 50g auto-turnoff when plugged in? I don't remember. Staying on would be nice.

Mine turn off whether or not it's plugged into a USB port! Curiouser and curiouser.

Well, mine is now shutting down after a few minutes, whether or not it is plugged into a live USB port. Before, it wasn't shutting down at all. This has happened after a few crashes with resets and keyboard freeze-ups. Also, random settings keep changing after resets. Most recently it changed back from the large font setting to the default medium font. It seems like the operating system is very unstable and that memory is easily corrupted. I'll be moving around in screen menus with the 4-way cursor wheel and all of a sudden the screen will go blank and it will reboot/reset. One thing is for sure; every day I back up the calculator to my pc.

I plugged my 50g in to the usb port, turned it on, and after 5 minutes it turned itself off. I have not yet looked to see if there is any setting or command to change the behavior?

#10

Just tried again....5 minute exactly shut-off. Looked for a flag (on calc and in manual). Behavior does NOT appear to be changeable.

#11

My calculator was not plugged into a power source when I noticed that it had neither dimmed its screen nor shut down. It was on for many hours when I first noticed it had not turned itself off.

Today, however, the calculator is did turn itself off after approximately five minutes. So the behaviour seems to be intermittent.

Having investigated the turning-off (or not-turning-off) behaviour of my HP Prime calculator, I have found that it consistently remains on (will not shut off) while displaying a graph. Other screens (Home, CAS, Help, Symb, Num, Apps Library, Matrices, Lists, Note Catalog) do not impede the automatic shut off after approximately five minutes.

I just verified your experience. First I entered the Plot screen, and the calculator remained On for more than 15 minutes. Then I entered the Home screen and it shut off after approximately 5 minutes. In both cases, the screen dims after approximately 15 seconds of inactivity. Perhaps this has something to do with background screen refreshes or internal calculations that occur when the calculator is operating in certain modes.

Well, now it's not turning off while connected to the pc USB port. Initially it didn't, but then a few days ago it started turning off while connected, but now it doesn't, but ........
