I did all the resetting procedures recommended (Soft and Hard). I also left the batteries out Over 90 hrs, but
still to my surprise, when I replaced the batteries, the Alpha symbol, Battery Low Symbol, The calculator is busy
symbol, and Data is being transferred to an external device symbol are all on. They only go off when I turn the calculator off. HP Support could not help me either. What
to do now?

Hi; I'd guess a system corrupted FLASH contents. Did you try to get in maintenance mode? I do not know it by heart, but it will allow you to completely load a new version of the O.S. Have you already done it? If you want help loading O.S., please let us know. My HP49G runs with one of the latest O.S. version and I'll heve to recall how to do it again... Oh, yes; you'll need the connecting cable (HP49G to computer) and connection S.W. Have all of it? I'm waiting for your post OR an e-mail. Success. ▼

In case it is a problem with corrupted operating system flash, the latest flash (AKA "ROM") and instuctions for installing it are at http://etud.epita.fr:8000/~avenar_j/hp/49.html. Another possibilty might be that you have a misbehaving library installed. To check for this possibility, do an [ON]&[F4] (both keys together) to get to the "Tests" screen, then hold down the backspace key, press [Q], and release the backspace key after the reboot has finished. RightShift LIB (above the [2] key) shouldn't show any libraries in the menu now, just the ports :0:, :1:, and :2:. If this cures the annunciator problem, it's a matter of finding which library is causing the problem and purging it. My guess is that it's a hardware problem, but it's certainly best to eliminate software problems first. Please let us know what you find out.
