The firmware probably isn't at a "final" release stage yet, so I'd cut them some slack. Though it is a bit surprising that they'd choose to demo an aspect of it with such an obvious flaw.

Please keep in mind the machine is in development and the presentations are based on that (and some photoshoping).

Seeing GT Springer's presentation and explanations to various attendees, I can tell you that the HP Prime should have been called HP King ... because it will be the meanest little beast on the market!! So save your money and be ready to buy at least one unit when it come out.

It's an easy guess that HHC2013 in Fort Collins will focus on HP Prime, So save your money and make reservations to be there. I think HHC2013 is going to be very special (no thanks to any talk I will give ...hahahaha)

I have to be careful to only communicate information that has being publicly disclosed, so unfortunately I can't specify an exact processor or chip. I can say though that it is an ARM9 normally clocked at 400mhz. It definitely is not a chip that should be difficult to get information on.

Fair enough. Good to hear that it's not exotic like the one in the 39gii. Sounds like it could be a Freescale i.MX 25 or Atmel AT91SAM9G15, 25, or 45. I think NXP might also have some candidates.

Could be a Samsung S3C2440, too. 400 MHz, ARM9, cheap, and a close relative of what's in the 50g. Or, there's newer variations, too.

And, there's actually a ton of SoCs meant for cheap Chinese netbooks running WinCE, but I'm thinking Samsung, they're the ones most likely to have good info available in that clockspeed range.

The ENTER key is exactly where it needs to be, for the first time in 30 years...above the /x-+ keys!

The industrial design looks very sharp...very refined and dignified.

It's great that it doesn't have one of those awkward model numbers that HP has used for the past 25 years...like "HP 50g+iis/b@3$" or some such thing. :-)

I've got to get one. When will the market be open?

I just hope they come up with a better name for it before it's finally released. Don't they plan on ever having a follow up to it? It reminds me of the HP Photosmart printer I once bought. Just try going to the HP website and searching for a driver for 'Photosmart'. It's impossible. Once they came out with a second photosmart printer they finally decided to give it a number too. But the first one was just 'Photosmart' with no other model number. It became a huge PITA.

TW - Congratulations on an awesome looking machine! Like all the rest here, I'm eager to get some hands-on time as this is the first handheld machine I've ever seen that really makes me want to do some real graphing. The demo screens showing the circle rotating while simultaneously plotting a curve is particularly effective.

Can you share with the group the reasoning for ENTER on the right side? It's not bad or wrong, IMHO, but as it's a first I'm sure we're all curious why?

The reasoning for a lot of things was driven by the desire to be consistent with expectations. People are used to large enter buttons on things like computer keyboards, and even touch keyobards on phones, and those are always on the right. People are used to seeing icons tied with "apps" and so the icon driven application catalog. There is something to be said for consistency with expectations in some ways.

That is actually the dynamic geometry application.

Actually, I'd never seen the video before Thursday morning at the booth. I knew it was being worked on, but really didn't know what it would look like. I think it turned out quite good actually.

This "Prime" looks very fine ! The plotter seems very powerful. I verified that the ellipse in the video is the real plot of the equation f(x,y)=0 given before. But the interest and usability will be if it don't take hours to draw...
