Swiss clones of the HP Voyager series

#2

The Swiss company making those credit-card sized clones of the HP-11,HP-12, HP-15 and HP-16 have released their Silver Edition second generation units this past Monday, November 18, 2012. They have also changed their website name from RPN-Calc.ch to www.SwissMicros.com . Nice looking units, also with titanium cases in 3 colors, and new silver leather pouch as well as a black leather flip open pouch.

Hi,

Curiously, none of the photos in the new site show an unit powered ON.

How is the display looking ?

Is it so bad that no marketing document may show it ?

Unless the display in the new version is a step down from the old one, there is nothing to worry about.
I am hoping for an improved keyboard though. That was the only thing I didn't like about the old units.

Dot matrix, low contrast (probably due to the glued overlay covering the whole front). Works, but I have seen much nicer displays. The real showstopper is the keyboard, which makes it impossible to fluently use the calculator.

Still nice. Hope they have licensed the firmware properly to stay in business for longer.

Is this comment based on the new machines (silver edition) or the older machines?

IMHO the new machines can't be delivered yet.

I was under the impression I would be getting one soon. At least I haven't heard anything suggesting otherwise.

I have one of the first batch, so they might have improved the hardware. OTOH, I'd expect them to communicate exactly that.

Do you mean the original one with the non-metal case ? The keyboards on those are bad, but the second generation with the aluminum case has a much better keyboard. They have promised a better keyboard on the latest version with the titanium case, so maybe it will be more usable. Anyway, I've ordered a new DM-15, so hopefully I'll find out soon.

Yes, sorry if I caused some confusion. I don't know anything about later models.

Missed that. Anyway, I'll wait for customer comments before even considering buying another one.

I only have one from the second batch. So I don't know what the keyboard was like on the first batch. Mine isn't great either though.

That confused me, too. I am not sure if the keyboard is supposed to be improved over the first batch, or the second batch.

Me too, we shall see if there are any improvements when it gets here..
