82143A printer battery packs

I'm building the battery packs for some of these printers form scratch and was wondering (apologies if I missed this info on the site somewhere)

what is the polarity of the two internal connectors?

and just ot be sure, the 4 subC NiCd batteries will in fact do the trick for a battery pack?

(if I get into a groove and make a dozen of these, I'll holler)

It's ugly, but it works. It's *much* prettier printing than the 82240A.
