Emu42 v1.15 available

#5

Emu42 v1.15 is available at http://hp.giesselink.com/ now. Sorry for the long delay, but I had to fix some more bugs in the data request of the debugger display unit.

Changes:

  • single instance mode
  • ~ 5% faster emulation speed because binary distribution is compiled with a more recent compiler (VS2005)
  • new display engine in the PC version, can use realistic LCD background now
  • new display engine may have side effects on existing KML files with missing "Color" definitions in the "Lcd" section
  • removed WineHQ workarounds, use Wine 1.4 or later please
  • fixed data request for debugger view in different memory mapping modes
  • some other fixes of minor bugs

I updated my HP17BII and HP28S PC KML scripts to the new display engine. The new KML scripts are part of the full installer package or can be downloaded separately. The old KML scripts are not available for download any more.

Because of performance reasons, the Emu42PPC version still use the old display engine with unicolor LCD background.

Cheers

Christoph

Many thanks Christoph for this update!

And even more thanks that all your great emulators are some of the very few programs today which are still working in Win98! :-)

Regards from a (still) Win98 fan,

Franz

MS try to throw out all old OS versions. The latest MS compiler with support for building Win9x/NT4.0 applications is VS2005.

Applications build with VS2008 run only on Win2k and later. Finally applications build with VS2010 run only on WinXP and later.

But there is help for Win98 and WinME. The package KernelEx http://kernelex.sourceforge.net/ expand the Win9x Kernel with the necessary entries to run programs compiled with VS2008 or VS2010.

With the help of KernelEx 4.5.2 and the unicows.dll DLL from MS I was able to run a Emu48 Unicode version compiled with VS2010 on a Win98SE PC.

Unicows.dll is a special DLL from MS to allow running Unicode applications on Win9x.

The text "for Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, XP, Vista and 7" does not mean that I tested the emulator on all named OS versions.

  • Win95 (a,b,c), I haven't seen a PC with this OS in the last 10 - 15 years.
  • Win98, I abandoned my last PC with this OS ~18 month ago.
  • Win98SE, I still have one for test purpose.
  • WinME, I never owned a PC with this OS or tested an Emu version on this OS.
  • NT4.0, I haven't seen a PC with this OS in the last 5, 6 or more years.
  • Win2000, I abandoned my last PC with this OS ~12 month ago.
  • WinXP SP3, still my regular OS at home.
  • WinVista (32bit), had a test PC some years ago, no actual tests on this OS any more.
  • Win7 (32bit), my actual OS at work.
  • Win7 (64bit), I have a test PC to test the emulators as IA32 or as x64 application.
