Voyager accessories

I thought there was a recent post looking for battery cover and slip case for a Voyager, stating that they were no longer available through the HP website - I can't find the post now, but I went to HP Parts Direct to see what I could find. The 12C no longer shows up in the "Partsurfer" which is used to find part numbers for a particular model. The 48G does show up. Then I went through a stack of postit notes on my table because I remembered looking up some HP parts in the past, and if I knew the P/N I could skip the Partsurfer. Well, it turned out the P/N I had was for the Pioneer slipcase. Just for fun, I tried putting my 12C in a Pioneer slipcase and it fits great! The slipcase is just about 10mm too long and the notches that let you grip a Pioneer to pull it out allow the opening to flare out a little to let you grip the Voyager. Maybe HP had this in mind?

So I entered the P/N 82243-60001 into the parts order system:

and it shows out of stock but lets me order it. Best of all, the price is $3.40 - it had been $6.00. However, when I placed the order, there was a shipping charge of $12.67! It used to be that all prices included shipping. So - no order. (Maybe I told the story of my $0.11 FedEx shipment too many times!)

But, if anybody has part numbers for the Voyager battery cover and slipcase, we could try them at the website above to see if they are still available.

I'm not sure this subject is the same, but I believe it's sort of a reference.

I visited e-Bay for an annoucement about Voyager's battery cover. The saler mentioned the fact it was new, never before used. At the time I saw it, it was about US$ 9.00. I thought it was too expensive, but what the h... If my Voyager is without that conver, what to do?

One question: is the 82240B still under production? Just to know...

The last time I contacted Hp directly (about a two months ago), to get some new thermal paper rolls for mine, the women I spoke to in the parts group said that the 82240B had been discontinued, along with the thermal roll paper. This would make sense as all the calculators that it is compatible with have also been discontinued.

She then went on to give me the obvious solution to the paper problem: Any 2 inch thermal paper is okay for the 82240A/B. Blue, black, whatever you can find she said. An answer from the Hp parts department that saved me some money!

There have been some new, in box units on eBay lately. I think they have been going for about half the retail price of $130.

Tnahk you, Randy; I was not known about this.

But both HP17BII and HP19BII still have IR output, and this is an IR output only, intended just for the HP82240B. And they are still (for how long?) in production.

That's why I asked about this: I was afraid it was discontinued, but HP still announces it in both manuals.

The 17BII was been discontinued many months ago. I am not certain the current status of the 19BII. I suspect it will be history soon as well, if not already. There are still a few sites on the web where you can still find new 17BII's for about $100.

It is a true shame that they continued to produce the 17BII and discontinued the 42S so long ago, as only the keytops, aluminum bezel and rom are different. They even shared the same circuit board. I guess Hp didn't want to cannibalize 48 sales with the 42 still around. That's one way to increase the market share for a product - just eliminate its only competition!

once again, thank you, Randy; I based myself in the www.hp.com/calculators/ information. Both - HP17BII and HP19BII are shown there as available. People at hP are not taking care even for updating their calculators' page. What to do?

While the units appear in the Hp web site, you cannot buy them from Hp directly. They will refer you to their dealer network as they are no longer in stock at Hp.

For an example of this, go to the 12C. You will find a price listed and a link to "Buy On Line". This takes you to the Hp Direct Shopping. You will no have such luck with the 17 or 19.
