HP-35 Accuracy Threshhold

#2

Hello all.

Yup! I am the proud owner of a vintage HP-35!!! I am so excited!!

Curious though. I tried a little experiment:

[ pi ] [EEX] 50 [X] 50 [ENTER] 10 [x^y] [ / ]

The result unfortunately wasn't exactly the 3.141592654 I was expecting.

Furthermore, as I tried 10^22, 10^23 onward, I kept seeing a slightly greater number than 1.000 in the mantissa.

Why the degradation of accuracy? Is it because of the algorithms or that there are no guard digits or is it something else?
