Lost parcel?

#14

Hi won an auction from ebay member "eklinge1982" last november.
I'm still waiting for the parcel and tried to contact the seller many times without effort.
The seller sent me a USPS tracking code. When I use it on the USPS website I get the following answer (single, not the newest):

"The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on November 24, 2011 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. No further information is available for this item. Additional information for this item is stored in files offline. A request to restore this information has been submitted and is currently pending."

Can anybody wiht a better english tell me what this means?

When I'm right, this means USPS got a mail from the seller they can pick up the parcel. I think, the parcel has not arrived any USPS counter as there is no other registration.
The seller sais, the parcel must be hanging on my custom. This is not possible as we should have get a kind of "parcel has left USA" registration on this thacking number.

I can't tell you what actually happened in your case, but I can confirm that I had this situation with the exact same message for a parcel send to me from the US - and it WAS at the German customs, although the message did not say so. The whole information ever posted on the USPS tracking site was the text you posted above, it was never updated when the parcel moved in the US, when it left the US, entered Germany or was finally handed over to me. Never! :-(

Still, your parcel seems to take a VERY long time, so I would file a complaint with USPS and phone your local customs to see if they maybe have forgotten to send you the usual notification.

My parcel back then with this message was the 15C LE, that took over six weeks if I remember correctly. Taking Christmas and maybe some extra slow helvetic customs officers into account, you might receive yours any day now...

Good luck!

From the tracking of packages that I have received from the US this would seem to indicate that the seller bought postage online from USPS which would have them print a label that has a barcode on it. When the parcel arrives at the post office they would scan the barcode and the tracking should get updated with something like "Acceptance, February 17, 2012, 1:08 pm, PERALTA, NM 87042". What you are seeing would seem to indicate that postage was purchased but the parcel never made it to the post office.

Not necessarily. The online tracking system at USPS is terrible, and often parcels are not scanned or are tracked incorrectly. This has happened to be numerous times domestically, and I've had packages not show up in the tracking system until after they've arrived. I have shipped numerous packages internationally via USPS Priority Mail including Germany, and I always scan and send the Customs Declaration and Dispatch Note PS Form 2976 which has a barcoded number to my rececipient. This way they can verify if it has reached their customs house. BTW, all my packages have arrived in Germany within 3 weeks. Never has a package been lost, although they have taken up to 4 weeks to arrive in some locations.

Have you tried entering the number on your local post service system? Once it lands in your country it should show up there.

#19

What class of service was used?

1) Air Post
2) Priority Small Flat Rate Box
3) Priority
4) Express

With #1 and #2, you'll see exactly what you have in the online system as these two services do not have tracking, it simply means the shipper purchased the shipping online, typically with the eBay/PayPal system. With #3 and #4, the tracking information is not always updated to the public web site but the shipper can ask his local office to request the tracking information and status.

It has been my experience that most delays are at the receiving countries customs clearance facilities. This is especially true during the Christmas holiday period. That said, I would suspect that it being the end of February, your parcel has been misplaced somewhere along the way.

The salient fact here is that the seller hasn't responded to any contact attempts...

Let me ask a more basic question: why are you making this *your* problem? I think you should file a dispute with ebay saying you have no evidence that the package was shipped. This happened to me once. I bought something from ebay and the seller simply didn't ship it. I got my money back from paypal eventually (minus $25 as I recall).

Make the *seller* track it down or refund your money.

I don't. If you have read my thread correctly you would have seen, that I'm asking for a correct translation and not for solving my problem.

A bit difficult as ebay just gives me a dispute for 60 days... november, ... let me calculate....
So, I do not have any ways except a fair arrangement with the seller.

You may have some recourse possible if you'd used a credit
card to draw the paypal payment. On the occasions I'd been
stung by a dud seller I've been able to recover both the
purchase price and shipping cost. If the seller can't
demonstrate the item was shipped (or is even willing to
communicate on the matter) I'd say there isn't much left for
interpretation.

FWIW I had a seller ship a 12c in a 2-day USPS priority
mailer, dropping it in a street corner post box. The USPS
tracking indicated a label was generated (identical to the
content-free boilerplate you'd received above) but didn't have
any record of taking possession of the parcel. Apparently
it thereupon disappeared from the planet as this 2 day delivery
service package paradoxically arrived over TWO MONTHS later
in absolute pristine condition. Not even a smudge mark on
the exterior. The postmark date on the "tracking"
label confirmed it was shipped when the seller claimed it had.
Bizarre.

I trust the USPS (and in particular their tracking system)
about as far as I can toss an elephant, likely less. USPS
is the last choice I use when sending anything I'd actually
like to arrive.

While I agree that their tracking system is a joke, I've never had anything get permanantly lost or damaged with USPS. Whether or not the seller actually shipped the item is an entirely separate matter.

Hello Matthias,
If you cannot get an arrangement with the seller, and if you paid with a credit card (trough paypal or other), you can try to file a complaint to the credit card company. I had once a dispute for a sale (not on ebay) for which I paid with paypal. After much delay trying to solve an issue with the seller who didn't really care that I never received the parcel, it was too late to file a complaint with paypal. So I filed a complaint to my credit card company (it was 4 months after the billing). After a couple of weeks I got a refund from my credit card.
Good luck,
Pascal (from Lausanne).

It you enter your tracking number here:

http://www.track-trace.com

it allows you to start tracking your parcel in the USA and switch via a tab to the local country postal service.
