Yes, during the "transit window" threads get fragmented, and replies to messages start with "Message #1" when in fact they could be the umpteenth reply. Even stranger is that different branches of the same thread can temporarily start as "Message #1" (it all gets sorted when the thread eventually stops and all gets transferred to the archive) :-)
