Perhaps I'm being picky but the display looks like:

6.888888889-10?

Again the low quality picture does not help, and the user states that it works fine.

It may be a red dot or a photo artifact. The dot appears to be too low and ill defined for a real red dot, but with the quality (or lack thereof) of the photos one cannot tell.

But if the hole is really too low, you would not see an entire dot. It has to be right above the dot, doesn't it? The switch lever is not very wide (at least on the non red dots).

I once worked on a very early HP-35 that was not a red dot machine. The on/off switch had a red dot on it! Obviously, HP had a few switches with red dots left after doing an engineering change that removed the see through hole. Another interesting fact was the cpu board had sockets instead of the through holes on later HP-35's. There were some other differences such as the rear label. One way to check the validity of the machine would be to see if the cpu board has the sockets.
