How to change a program list in text form into executive form of HP-41CV

#2

I finally want to carry out a program list in text form that debugging was finished on HP-71B with HP-41CV.
I have a "HP-41 Translator for HP -71" module.
This module can be changed into individual form that a HP-41 emulator on HP-71B can understand a program list in text form.
But, as for this module, the executive form of HP-41CV can't be formed.
I want to use the program which finished debugging on HP-71B on HP-41CV.
If it is necessary, I am added to HP-71B for this plan, and "HP-9114B Disc Drive" and a personal computer can be prepared.
Don't you know the good method of anyone?

If you have the program in text form (ASCII), then you can use one of the many programs that print barcodes on inkjet and laser printers. You then read the barcode using the Wand.

If you do not have a wand, or you want to use the 9114 floppy, no matter what, then you need to convert the text listing into a binary HP-41 program. You can do this with little effort by modifying the barcode printing program to store the bit patterns in a file rather than printing the barcode. Note that you only save the bits that correspond to the program instructions, not the barcode headers and checksums.

Come to think of it, maybe one of the HP-41 emulators can be used to convert text files to binary HP-41 program files.

Hi;

as I do not have any means to exchange data from my 41's to the external world (I only have the input wand and the printer, so I can scan printed listings, use an OCR, correct it, generate the barcode and wait till the sunlight illuminate the cave so I can start it over after dawn... primitive, but it is the only way I have. I can also type in the programs, but having a hardcopy (82143A) helps much), I want to know if a stream with all valid code, say, straight equivalent bytes, can be loaded in the HP41 and be "understood" as a program. I mean, if I have all bytes that form a program in the HP41 memory, would the calculator accept them as a program? There are some instructions in the HPIL repertoire that allow data transfer; would a simple header be enough? If this is true, then the transfer process AND file changing would be easy: a bit of Synth Code understanding and the transfer way and the job is done.

I would like having a look at the actual contents of a program-type file so I could see how is it coded.

Just to see, because I have no means to use it. (I dream of an 82160A HPIL).

Cheers.

Leo Duran has written an excellent piece of software that will easily transfer all kinds of HP-41 (and some HP-71) program formats from one into another. This includes many different and useful formats. You must have a method to get the files to/from your calculator, though.

Thank you for responding for me.
It is decided that I try the program of Leo Duran.
If it is possible, I want to finish all work on HP-71B.
Does the change program described by HP-BASIC exist?
Then, can you download a binary file from HP-71B into HP-41C directly?

Vassilis,
I wonder what kind of program that allows me to print barcode from an HP41 text listing? I can get the listed program into a PC text file by printing via the IR module to a 48 then transfer to the PC. I might have to do some editing but for the most part I can get the program listing OK.
Thanks.

Didn't you read Dan M's message earlier on? He said:

Look in the "articles" forum at this site.

http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/articles.cgi

Towards the bottom (old articles) I have #42 and #24.

#42:

http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/articles.cgi?read=42

is a way to use MS Excel and TrueType fonts to make 41 BarCode. It's kind of cumbersome, and it even takes me a while to figure it out every time I go back to it, but it works.

Leo Duran has done a far better job of implementing these ideas than I can. Read about his program at

http://www.hpmuseum.org/software/41uc.htm

I think that his BarCode output is for a PostScript Printer, and since I generally don't have PostScript Printers I haven't really tried it. If it's anything like the rest of his program, making barcode with it will be easy, quick, and bug-free.

Tony Duell has written what appear to be very excellent utility tools for 41 programs, "but" they are for Linux. I don't run Linux :-( so I have not had the opportunity to try his programs. Tony's extensive list of utilities includes methods to produce 41 bar code.

http://www.hpcc.org/hpil/lif_utils.html

Good Luck. If you try my MS-Excel-based implementation and have trouble figuring it out, feel free to send me an email and I can possibly explain how it works.

Hi;

I tried the programs (uc41) and there is an option to generate a file that is printable (if I am not wrong, it is a .prn extension file). I got success printing these files directly through an HP1100 laser, when the computer was in plain DOS (I did not set the printer to print in a DOS shell when installing it). The final printing is a lot good.

If more info is required, I just have to find my notes somewhere in here...

Success.
