Idler gear used in HP-97 printer

#6

For years I have tried to track down a source of the white plastic idler gear used in the HP-97 calculator printer. I am certain that HP did not have it fabricated special. Does anyone know who molded this polyurethane or nylon gear for HP? I have 3 HP-97 calculators, and this idler gear is stripped in all of them. The plastic reacted with the atmosphere and disintegrated. I have miked out all of the dimensional data.

And/or the one from www.modellbauershop.de and drill it to correct diameter.

I, for myself, prefer the metal one and replaced it this way.

Very interesting and would like to try.

But could not find the correct part using the reference number you gave (maybe due to my "excellent" German... :-)). Could you supply us with the link that points directly to the right one?

Really?

Did you first consider that every other part in the 97 that was molded from plastic was molded in an HP facility in mold made by HP? Right down to the two pin power connector.

I think you seriously under-estimate the level of vertical integration that existed within HP in the seventies...
