My 82104A won't pull the cards through. I took it apart, and put a battery direct to the motor, and it runs fine. It just doesn't seem to know when I insert a card. Any suggestions?
Thank you.
Ron

Assuming that the motor is not even running when you insert a card, I might guess that one of the card sensing contacts is dirty. When you insert a card, does the HP-41 display give any error message? If it does not, then I would be even more suspicious of a bad contact. It is also possible that the ROM or the connection to the -41 is bad. You should be able to do a good check of this by executing a catalog 2. If the Cardreader functions display correctly, this can probably be ruled out. If the motor runs when a card is inserted, but the card is not pulled through, it is the "gooey rubber roller" syndrome, very common. The rubber drive roller needs to be replaced. ▼
