My 82104A won't pull the cards through. I took it apart, and put a battery direct to the motor, and it runs fine. It just doesn't seem to know when I insert a card. Any suggestions?

Assuming that the motor is not even running when you insert a card, I might guess that one of the card sensing contacts is dirty. When you insert a card, does the HP-41 display give any error message? If it does not, then I would be even more suspicious of a bad contact. It is also possible that the ROM or the connection to the -41 is bad. You should be able to do a good check of this by executing a catalog 2. If the Cardreader functions display correctly, this can probably be ruled out. If the motor runs when a card is inserted, but the card is not pulled through, it is the "gooey rubber roller" syndrome, very common. The rubber drive roller needs to be replaced.

Ron, Should you need a fix for the roller see my post along with Jerrys' on about 11 april this year for the model airplane fuel tubing fix.....should you need a piece drop me a line and I'll send you enough to do the job for the exorbitant fee of a picturesque postcard from your neck of the woods.
