HP-48GX of black character.

I got the information that the liquid crystal of black character was being used with HP-48GX manufactured recently from the acquaintance.
But, HP-48GX of the blue character has never seen me so far.
I didn't purchase HP-48GX because I disliked the liquid crystal indication of the blue character.
I want to know whether friend's assertion is right.
Let me know whether HP-48GX of black character really exists.
I really want to purchase it if HP-48GX of black character really exists.

Hi;

I have an HP48G (not GX) with the same LCD that comes with the HP49G. This LCD has only the status indicators (upper symbols inthe display) in blue. The dot-matrix itself is in black.

In fact, HP48 and HP49 have the same information in their LCD. The color itself is black in the 49's LCD, and it is a lot better to read. Nothing wrong using 49's LCD in a 48.

Does this also mean the end of the green/gold "wash" problem on the 48GX?

If you are referring to

"a slight reddish-brown discoloration near the lower left hand corner and a slight green discoloration near the lower right hand corner"

that the indonesian models made in mid to late 2001 suffered from, then yes I think so. I also believe the overall tone of the screen has changed from a pale tan/grey to a light grey.

I think you'll be happy. I just received my 48GX from Samson Cables (ordered new unit, not used) and it has the black (high contrast) LCD. The keys are painted, and the green & lilac colors don't line up very well, but I guess that is characteristic of the "new" HP. The unit I have was made in the 45th week of 2001.

I suspectedt that; both of mine HP48G - blue- and black-LCD - are also Indonesian, as it is the HP49G. I have not seen the Chinese HP48 so far, and I have seen some among students.

Interesting. I just e-mailed Samson Cables and apparently they've never stocked or even seen the fabled Chinese 48's. Also, they've never received any complaints from customers about Indonesian 48's with screen discolorations in the bottom corners. This is strange since the unit I have
( serial# ID12200572 - 22nd week of 2001 ) has this defect as well as all the other new 48's produced around that time
that I saw. (where "saw" constitutes me looking at all the blister packed 48's on the shelf at a local Fry's Electronics ;) Can anyone else vouch for the existence of 2001 Indonesian models with the same problem or was mine just a fluke? Perhaps later models have switched to a different screen?

I can't vouch for anything with certainty, but my Indonesian made 48GX (week 45 of 2001 - that would be early November) definitely has the black LCD with no discoloration. I don't know anything about Chinese 48's.

For the life of me I can not remember where I got my 48GX from but it has this problem. I didn't notice it right away. Actually I just thought it was the way the light reflected from the display. But then someone mentioned it on this site. Mine is Indonesian.

I asked to elect as new a product as possible salesclerk
in the E-mail.
Salesclerk's correspondence chose the thing that it was
polite and which arrived newly for me.
Black character liquid crystal satisfies it because it
was easy to see beyond the expectation.

just to (continuously) add that indeed, black-dots' HP48 is a lot easier to read.
