Response from buy.com

#31

When I asked customer service specifically (third contact that I know of) and challenged them by saying that HP stated that they could not possibly have them in stock this is the response that I got (you will note that the question was answered by telling me that the product *STILL* exists rather than it is *GOING* to exist or newly exists):

Hello Marwan,

Thank you for contacting Buy.com regarding your order # 62171041.

We thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have confirmed that
our listing is correct in showing the HP 15C calculator. According to
HP's website, there is definitely still an HP 15C calculator. You may
verify this by copying and pasting the following URL into your browser.

Marwan,

The URL you mention leads to a "Sorry, we can't find that page" message in an HP web page.

Buy.com says the HP-15C LE exists (i.e. in the pipeline) but I am not sure their text says that buy.com HAS these machines in stock.

Am I reading their reply wrong???

Hi Namir,

The original link they sent to me worked but was not much use. It links to the HP-15C *software* emulator page.

One of the reasons I posted the entire response was for people to pick it apart <g>. No, they don't say that they *have* the units but they do say that their listing is correct which *implies* that they have the units since a correct listing would include being correct on stated availability. However, as I noted, they never really answered the question, just saying, as you stated, that the HP15C exists. I still feel that there is less than a 50% chance that we will see the calculators in the next 5-8 days.

It appears that Katie got a tracking number so she may be the first person to know what we will be getting (if we will be getting anything at all).

Cheers,

-Marwan

Hi Namir,

I just sent an email back asking for clarification. Lets see what they say.

I have a FEDEX notication that has the ETA as 9/12 (Monday). We'll see. So far, FEDEX has not picked up the package, just received notification.

I wonder if it is possible that they have set up fulfilment of these orders directly from China? Apple does this with their engraved iPods. Name on in China today...at your doorstep in USA a few days later. Does the Fedex tracking have an origination location?

#37

Mine are due to arrive Monday as well. Tracking shows the origin is Mississippi, USA.

Doubtful. They would have to arrange that with HP, and in that case Tim and Glenn probably would have known about it. While a 3rd party (most likely Kinpo or Inventec) may be making these calculators for HP, they're making them *for HP*. If they sold a few pallets to someone else on the sly, and HP found out about it), this would be a very good way for them to lose a valuable production contract.

#39

I'll bet that what buy.com is sending out are the 12C LE calculators when you order a 15C. The product ID for the 12C LE is: NW258AA#ABA and for the 15C it's: NW250AA#ABA. It's pretty easy for someone to mistype or misread an 8 for a 0 in that string of characters.

#40

We shall see. I'm going to buy a 12C LE too, or may have already done so. :)

#41

It doesn't seem that they made a mistake on that because they're selling HP-12C 30th anniversary with a correct product ID:

Yes indeed, they sell both. However according to Tim, they can't possibly be sending out the 15C, yet they've already sent something to me and others who ordered the 15C and I'm guessing that it's a calculator of some sort.

We'll know early next week how badly they screwed up (or if Tim was wrong).

#43

Agreed ... when we receive our orders on Monday, this forum will light up again with messages about either how buy.com messed up or how on earth did they get their hands on HP-15 LE units!!!

#44

I hate to say it, but my guess is that you all get printer cartridges.

#45

I do not plan to buy anyone myself (I do not even use the ones I already have), but this is a real cliff-hanger! I am eagerly awaiting the outcome of all this!

#46

At least the WP 34S dominance in this forum seems to be over... ;-)

#47

The expression "Gone but not forgotten" comes to mind ... but believe me the wp34s holds the number TWO spotlight in our interest.

It will be a fantastic pleasure to meet you at HHC2011 ... and believe me you will be one of the superstars in the meeting!

I tried last night for the first time to transfer a .rom file over the serial cable to the 41CL last night. I'm still not quite doing something right.

:-)

#49

thanks for your perseverance Gene, we're all hoping this last goodie works on the CL - the ultimate calculator now a reality :)

#50

I also received a FEDEX tracking number; ETA 9 September. Also verified part number NW250AA#ABA. I'll post again if these numbers turn into an actual product. Then I'll have all the numbers I need. I can't wait -- finally an HP scientific calc I can actually pocket ...

#51

Says mine has shipped from *Mississippi*, due on Mon. Hmmmm...

#52

Same here. Also, the price has now been increased to $84.99 with a $129 MSRP. http://www.buy.com/prod/hp-15c-scientific-calculator/223173356.html

#53

Mine is also supposed to arrive Monday.

#54

Mine too is due Monday.

#55

Did you select expedited, standard or budget shipping?

#56

Expedited. I splurged on overnight shipping and mine is on the delivery truck scheduled for delivery today by 3PM PDT. (Edit: but I will wait until I open the box before I cancel my order with Cost central.)

So Buy.com thinks that they are shipping me a calculator that HP says they cannot possibly have. FEDEX has sent me a tracking number for the non-calculator indicating that it will be delivered Monday. However, their tracking page warns me of service disruptions due to Hurricane Irene, which occurred 2 weeks ago. I am not sure there is anyone in this equation, including me, that has a clue...

"HP" covers a lot of territory. Since "HP" variously has listed the calculator, taken it off, stated "out of stock", "coming soon", "algebraic", has/doesn't have a printed manual, changed the price several times, etc. etc., I doubt there is any one person at HP, even Tim, that really "knows" what's up with the 15c LE.

Got my confirmation email from the buy dot com today and when i checked the tracking it was all Memphis. No surprise as that is the Fed Ex main hub. I am now very excited to receive my printer cartridge! *sarcasm* You know i was just thinking what genius at HP decided that it would be a good idea to reuse the same letter/number combination to describe more than one product in current production?

Well, you nailed that one. Looks like this is for real!
