Did CostCentral remove the HP15C page?

#30

I went to the CostCentral site to pre-order my two 15C's, but the page redirects me to the homepage. I can't seem to find the 15C in their shop anymore. What's going on? Have they already pre-sold all their allowance? :(

Cristian

#31

Yes, and so did compsource. and Samson Cables upped the price to $109.99 (they must have noticed too and decided to milk their monopoly).

#32

Hmmm... that's too bad. I'm wondering, did they also cancel the already made pre-orders? Or will they honor them?

Cristian

#33

My pre-ordered HP-15C still appears active in the CostCentral system. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

#34

I contacted them for information and they said that my order will ship out when the calcs come in. So it looks like they intend to honor pre-orders. I am trying to get more information out of them but they are being pretty close-mouthed (or should that be closed-mouthed) about it.

Cheers

I did get a response. Basically I had asked why the item was pulled and if the 12C 30th Anniversary Edition was going to be relisted (it was also pulled). To paraphrase the answer I received:

>>>>>>>
I believe that we pulled the item due to the number of orders received.
<<<<<<<

Seems like maybe they are not sure they can fill all the orders? This may be bad news for those that don't get their orders in early since it might mean skyrocketing prices.

I really wish that HP would just make 100,000 of the darn things and alleviate the whole supply/demand problem. I am quite sure that they will be able to sell even that many though it would certainly take longer.

Hello,

I just got an email from compsource, where I ordered yesterday two 15C, and got a confirmation. They just canceled it !

Quote:
Thank you for your CompSource order. Unfortunately, the item you ordered has been discontinued and we are not expecting anymore from the manufacturer. We apologize for this inconvenience, but your order has been cancelled and payment has been refunded. Please allow at least 72 hours for your refund to post to your account. We do appreciate your business and hope you will shop with CompSource Inc. again. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me at jolivares@csource.com.

Very honest !

could it be the 'new' 15C never existed, and that these companies listed the item based simply on the rumours of its imminent arrival? perhaps even the discussions on here helped fuel the fires...

#38

I think there is sufficient circumstantial evidence that it does exist at least as a prototype. However, the exact production quantities and dates are still uncertain. I think that some suppliers have pulled back due to the flood of greedy speculators trying to place enormous orders.

#39

One does not put an item up for sale based on rumors. Clearly, HP cracked down on these earlybirds.

Clarification: so many HP authorized retailers do not put an item up for sale based on rumors. :)

Well, if that is the case, why is Samson Cables still accepting orders ?

They are an interesting case. They claim to be an authorized retailer, but then they violate the restrictions imposed on authorized retailers (notably, the prohibition of shipping overseas), so I'm not sure what is going on there. It's why I am not an authorized retailer, because I don't want to be prevented from shipping overseas.

SYNNEX has stopped listing it as well. Interesting.

Well, fairly honest:

Somehow, these guys manage to get your charge in in milliseconds, but why does the refund take 3 days?!?!

Has anyone else noted that the speed of light (even allowing for coax cable velocity factor) seems awfully slow for some financial transactions? Stuff that should happen in seconds takes days.

#44

A better question is why they charged your card / bank account prior to the actual ship date ? All the outfits I deal with don't do that and CostCentral did not do this on the HP-15C order. The only time it is acceptable to bill for something prior to shipment is when it's a custom-built item, such as the Levolor blinds I recently bought through Lowes and I had to pay up front when I placed the order.

Only when it benefits the banks and big corporations.

It's common practice. The company takes advantage of the "float." PayPal does this on all transactions. Uploads of $ are instant, downloads take several business days. Obviously it's a conscious decision.

I tried to pre-order from Cost Central yesterday in the afternoon (I have a postal address within the US), but got an "out of stock" message. Shortly after that I wasn't able to access the HP 15C page any more. Pre-ordered then from Samson Cables, flawlessly. Un saludo.

#48

Pre ordered one at samsoncables for $94.99. Now it has gone up at $109.99. Should have pre ordered 2 or 3 ... .

We will see.

#49

Samson Cables no longer lists the new HP-15C.

#50

Oh wow. It seems I was able to slip my order in just before they shut it down then. I hope they'll honor it! :) Though the fact that every seller is withdrawing the 15c is worrying. Could that have been a "plot" by HP to see how people would really react to a 15C re-issue?

Cristian

#51

Well, keep it up and maybe somebody will finally decide a 15c reintro would sell.

#52

How about this ?

#53

Perhaps it was just a big experiment to see how many orders would come in within 2 days at various prices and one with an outside-of-USA shipping option. So now HP can make a better assessment of how many to produce?

#54

If this was a test balloon only, then this SC preorder

may have been the last order I made for a new "hp".

So let's hope the 15C LE is real...

OT: In a few days, I'll release an updated version of SpeedUI,

with support for the RainEQ EQ writer directly from the stack.

Although it is only software, then SpeedUI nevertheless exists:-)

Never put down to malice what can be attributed to stupidity. Then apply Occam's razor.

There was nothing underhanded or sinister about this, HP released some details to their distributors and some shops jumped the gun. HP realised the oops and asked for the items in question to be pulled.

Nice simple explanation fitting well with the administrivia of every large organisation I've ever worked for :-)

I agree with Pauli. Let's calm down. Even assuming that roughly 5.000 15C enthousiasts are jumping up and down right now and have made pre-orders or are simply contemplating making pre-orders for (in total) 10.000 units, I am quite sure that a production run of only 10.000 units for a new item is quite unsound from a commercial point of view. If HP has finally decided to reissue a 15C, I wager that they need at least 50.000 sold units to recoup their investments.

My guess is that they are trying to find out the ideal MSRP for this product. All this jumping up and down is only going to affect the price setting for this product. Calm down and wait, there will be enough units of this product for everyone. It is ultimately a niche product, TAS prices nonwithstanding.

I for one am going to wait at least until an official announcement and a MSRP price from HP before ordering this product.

If this reissue is really going to happen, I would like to thank those who have convinced HP management of this. Thank you, really.

But it's still possible to pre-order as "special order". SC will inform you about this option if you subscribe to their "new HP Calculators notification list". There's hope ;-)

It seems as though early demand was sharp. I wonder if we enthusiasts will snap up all of the limited edition units. Perhaps "if" is not the question, but "how soon?"
