WP 34S Version 1.18

Post: #10

Hey guys:

A little clarification please. In Eric's posting below about ordering overlays (which I did too) he mentions updating the overlay to the 1.18 layout. I downloaded the latest version from sourceforge.net/projects/wp34s/files/ but it shows the zip file to be dated 2011-05-11. When I flash my 30b with last night's download and check the version, it says I have 1.17 874. It has said that for the last 3 downloads which I do weekly on Friday night.

So, has 1.18 been out or is it in some pre-alpha evaluation and not released to SourceForge yet?

Thanks,
Gerry

If you always want the latest version you have to look at the develop site:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/wp34s/develop

There you can click on the link 'SVN browse code' to get any up-to-date file you want, the files for flashing your real calc are in the subfolder 'trunc/realbuild'.

I'm out of the house in the moment. We're planing some "final" release in due course.

... and, watch out, the layout will change.

BTW, the zipped package is updated seldom. As Franz wrote, please look to other branches of the project tree. Then you'll be closer to the edge of development - with all advantages and disadvantages ...

And it looks like there might be a couple of minor revisions to the keyboard layout coming up. This is spurred on in part by Eric doing a full overlay allowing more space for labels....

In a week I am going out of town for a month, and right now I have 47 overlays that have been ordered that I need to ship out before I leave. I would ideally start making them on Monday to give myself enough time to get them done, and I certainly can't wait past Wednesday. What do you think is the timeline for the revisions? Or should I not even bother to get those in place for this production run?

I suppose I could take my equipment with me on my trip but I would really rather not do that.

I, for one, could certainly wait another month to allow the dust to settle. I am in no panic to get a hold of the overlays.

I ordered a couple right away because you mentioned you were going to "accept a small number of orders" and didn't want to get caught out on the wrong side of the "small number".

I suspect if you delayed doing your print run until you are back it would not hurt anyone unduly.

Neil, I think he *wants* to ship some now, to be used as a test and to get user feedback. I think he was just asking if there is going to be a layout update very soon, so that even the "beta test" overlays could include it, so that they would be already actual, without being obsoleted after a few days.
Either way, I'll be glad to test it when it arrives, if feedback might be important; even if this means having to buy another set when the layout is finalized.

That's exactly it, and exactly why I only am offering it for a short while. I don't want to have too many of them out there until the kinks are worked out.

OK, I understand. I am still in for the 2 I ordered.

Cheers...

Eric:

I understood this to be a run of "beta test" labels, so I'm happy to take the current layout, as-is, for testing.

Bob
