Steve asked: is hp still making the 32SII calculator if not are they producing any rpn scientific calculators? No, HP no longer makes the 32sII, but you can still find them at some stores and on the web (for the time being).
The only RPN calculators that HP currently makes are: I don't think I forgot any... Bruce. ▼

Steve: Actually, after looking at some other messages posted down below, it appears that the HP-17bII may no longer be in production. I haven't verified this for myself. Bruce. ▼

I just got offered several 17bii calcs as a closeout price, so maybe they are. (And I can't share the info just yet, I have to ask the seller, and then find a way to get the word out without getting him overwhelmed by orders for 1039548382) -Christof ▼

Did you forget the 12C, or has it been dissed too?

I bought two brand new 17BII's from a guy who has been running a dutch auction on Ebay for a while. He says he has a lot of them. They must be warranty replacement units because they just come with a slip cover but he includes a photocopy of the manual. (I guess he's "running afoul of the law".) His starting bid is $45 and he is getting very few takers. I wonder if he got these from HP parts too? I understand the 42S wouldn't have been supported by HP anymore and that's why they would have sold them without requiring a "core". But shouldn't they still support the 17BII for a few years, if they just discontinued it? Although they might have a reserve for that purpose and this guy just bought some of the surplus. Some years ago I got my HP16C from EduCalc when they were selling warranty replacement units. They also advertised 15C's inside the front cover, but by the time I called they only had 16C's left. I think I paid $30 and the 15C's were priced at $35! The Ebay seller with the 17BII's also has complete 38G's of which I also bought a couple. He also lists 48G's and "slightly used" 49G's. Actually, I first learned about his ad here, he had advertised "38G/not 38GX" on Ebay and that raised hopes of a new model. I like the 38G! I got a couple of 39G's locally last year when they were being closed out but I like the 38G better. I've realized I don't have a use for a graphing calculator as far as advanced graphing features go, but I like writing my own graphing programs! I'm having fun with the clear screen and pixel set commands. After I had a program working, I transferred it to a 39G and it worked there too. ▼

The seller in question is a very reasonable seller- I've gotten several calcs from him- the 38g and 48g calcs are NIB- though the boxes are a bit shelf worn. The 49Gs I've gotten have both been new- not in box, but one came with sealed manuals (the other opened) and both came with the screen protector sheets still on. I haven't gotten one of the 17bII's yet- in the mail. :) Through several orders now he's been vvery likeable, communicative, and overall a very decent guy. He's not afoul of the law, he's just buying overstock from an HP reseller. He's also more than happy to sell for set prices off of ebay. Ebay ID is jeffbunce, IIRC. He's coolwith me giving out his email address, if anyone needs it. -Christof |
