While looking for something completely different, I found the following web page, with some information that might be of interest to readers of this forum.
http://www.techpoweredmath.com/hp-12c-special-edition-hp-15c-re-release/
"HP has informed Bach that in June, there will be a special limited edition run of the HP-15C."

Cool, we will keep an eye out for it. I would love to snatch one of them if I get a chance.

If this comes to fruition, I'll be snatching more than one :-)
A keyboard with decals more suitable for a repurposing :-)

Very interesting! If available in Europe for a reasonable price, I'd buy one as well :-)
@Pauli: How do you think there will be decals?

Decals as in the keyboard is printed for a 15c not a 12c.
I.e. labels.

Olá Gerson,
That makes sense. Shall the "million-seller" be the HP10BII+ ? Rats, I feared the financial guys have spread but didn't know :-(

Hello Walter,
The HP-10BII+ is already available. Since they mention July and June perhaps the "million-seller" has yet to come... Another financial calculator, most likely. Not the 43s this time, I fear...
Gerson.

For them to sell a million units of one type of calculator won't they be keychain four bangers, that cost consumers $1.99 each, and cost HP about $0.12 each to have manufactured in China?
It will probably have a white LED built in so you can illuminate your door locks in the dark.

Interesting that the 15C wikipedia article was updated to reflect this rumour a few days ago....

Given the limited resources of HP (and I say that with great sadness), I think you already have seen the "new HP-15C":
new HP-15C = HP-10BII+
The new machine is probably (my own guess) it for the rest of the year.
So cool your jets Mary!!!

And given their limited resources, I would argue that HP would try to leverage the effort and experience gained reusing the original 12C ROM in the 12C ARM variant. A limited run of the 15C would make sense if most of the development costs associated with such an effort were already expended during the 12C ARM development. And HP could charge a premium for this one, and people (like us) would still buy it. I would like a new 15C at the same price as the 12C, but probably wouldn't flinch at the checkout if it was 50% more than that.

I am curious .... in your opinion, if HP launches a new HP-15C, what do you think will happen to the prices of the original HP-15C on TAS??

Same thing that happened to the prices of the original HP-12C on TAS.

While I am not one to frequent TAS for these things, so I may be uninformed as to what happened with 12C's - I think the law of supply and demand will hold ;)

As long as the quality of the Keyboard is better than the 49g/20s class of calculator, I'd expect a 30 to 50% drop in prices for the vintage 15C machines available on TAS.
My reasoning is split between 3 factors:
1) Most of the older 15C's have bezel damage or logo damage which is unsightly for collectors and users alike
2) Based on my experience with the new 12C+, I should hope that any proposed ARM variant of the 15c would likely be faster than the original.
3) The more recent HP releases have seen a good increase in quality and keyboard feel.
Without that 'special sauce' of keyboard feel and speed, I do not believe a new 15C release will reduce TAS prices for original 15C's- much like the 33S had little effect on the 32sii pricing.
I suspect the 35S impacted the price of used 32Sii's more, but I believe neither the 33S nor 35S release had much effect on the more capable 42S machines.

Does anyone have any idea what effect the new retro Ford Mustangs and Chevy Camaros, have had on late 60's and early 70's Mustangs and Camaros? I think originals are still fetching high prices. My guess would be original 15Cs will be ok, as long as folks can differentiate between original and new. I suspect the new 15C would have an extra battery and some other mark of distinction.
While I'm typing, I certainly hope HP does not limit the number of 15Cs they manufacture for reasons of maintaining some kind of exclusivity. They're not manufacturing Rolexes. Why would they limit production on a piece of plastic made in China? I'm sure if they manufacture 100,000 eventually they will be sold. They're not going to be tossed in a landfill like some cheap four banger.
Tim has mentioned some of these stores are uptight about what products are using up which hooks. I'm sure if large quantities are available, Amazon will sell them for years until they are all gone. Shoot, Amazon is still selling 35Ses for $49.99USD with this written below the price: "Only 20 left in stock--order soon (more on the way)." See that?! More on the way. Where are they getting more? The 35s came out in '97 (I think). Is HP still manufacturing them?

The 35s came out in 2007 (I think) - celebrating the thirtyfifth anniversary of the HP-35.

Weak analogy, IMO. The retro Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers, Challengers, T-birds, etc. are modern cars that simply evoke the cars of yesteryear. OTOH, the 15c+, when it happens, will be a nearly exact copy of the original.
Collectors who want (and can afford) a real '57 T-bird will still pay big bucks for it. A driver who just has nostalgia for it will buy a modern one.
Similar situation with the 15c, except there's more than nostalgia at work. Many users actually like - well, using the 15c. So the originals will go down in price, at least somewhat.

That all depends on what percentage of the demand for original 15Cs is collector interest vs people looking for a capable/comfortable scientific calculator. At the risk of annoying 15C fans (among whose number I count myself,) I suspect that people who buy the 15C for the latter reason may overlap a lot with the former group. In other words, given a limited 15C reissue, the price on TAS for original 15Cs may not be affected much.
On the other hand, I first bought an original 15C in poor condition, just so I could get my hands on a working device to play with. So there might be some damping of enthusiast (vs collector) interest.

A production run of 15Cs would not be cost free. If they failed to sell out a run of 10,000, it would be insane to keep producing them.
If this rumor turns out to be genuine, then perhaps HP is seriously test marketing the commercial viability of an updated 15C. They should already have some idea of the actual demand based on sales of the (expensive) 15C iPhone app. If that's the case, and the pilot run sells out, then the price of original 15Cs might well go down in the face of a larger supply of new 15Cs, as long ago happened to the 12C. This would be good news for collectors, I should think. An early 12C in good condition is still attractive to a serious collector.

Just preliminary, just simple Paint Cut and Copy - but it's amazing, I think!
It needed more digits on LCD, some memory, and the classic LOGO of course, and this will be my perfect new calc!

Not quite. The HP-15C does matrix math; the HP-32SII doesn't.

More importantly, the HP-15C does complex math naturally and (almost) effortlessly. The HP-32SII and its follow-ons really do not.
But the calculator that is absolutely unique in capability and deserves restoration to the HP product line is the HP 42S, which is a grossly better calculator than the HP-15C in every particular except style.

"cool factor"?
Look at that vertical ENTER and five keys in all rows!
This is really cool, I think! ;-)

Now I see the vertical enter (haven't noticed that before)!
Yes, I agree that's cool too!
(Nice cutting and pasting BTW)
I'm just VERY sentimental about the voyagers and I'm so glad to be able to play with the 41c too, especially going through the synthetic programming books, that's just so much fun :-)

Thanks!
Maybe the ratio of side length according to golden ratio is more acceptable...
... and full metal, dust and waterproof housing (thin scratched black and polished chrome),
... 1:50 and 1:100 scales on the left and right side of calc for measuring on maps and designs
... HP keyboard with backlight,
... backlight for LCD, 12+3 digit on LCD,
... more memory (~4kB is acceptable)
... memory-safe battery,
... IR-LED,
... SD card support,
... GPS,
... digital compass,
... etc ...
