GO-25 An HP-25C Emulator for the iPod and iPad

#8

Hello All,

I found in the Apple Store the new GO-25 emulator application for the iPod and iPad. The application emulates an HP-25C. The iPad version allows you to view the stack, memory registers, and program steps (it supports 99 steps instead of 49). When you double tap the memory/registers pad you get a list of the commands you have entered. The program pad shows the program mnemonic as well as the key codes.

I am sooooo happy to have this nice HP-25C emulator in addition to the other RPN-25 emulator for the HP-25.

The GO-25 emulator is brought to us by the same developer who created GO-21 the HP-21 emulator.

cool! finally I have an HP-25 red LED, albeit an iPod emulator :-)

Please take a look to "rpn-21" and "rpn-25" emulators, by Maciej Bartosiak, and based on Eric Smith's NonPareil. The look and feel is more iPhone-styled rather than a Woodstock replica; but they are a very good option too.

I have both versions!

I collect emulators, simulators, and the real McCoy!!!

I guess that the name "GO" came from "HP" with each character decremented by one; in the same sense that the name "HAL" (from "2001, An Space Odyssey") was formed decrementing each of the "IBM" characters.

#13

I guess you're right! Also, decrementing the characters by one was the best choice. I guess IQ-21, IQ-25 or even IQ-97 would not sell :-)

Well 'known' folklore, however the author of 2001 (Sir Arthur C. Clarke) has disputed that claim!

#15

Correction acknowledged, will be taken into account from now on. Thanks!!

BTW, see the Forward of the book, 'HAL's Legacy', Stork, editor, forward by Arthur C. Clarke, p.xi.

Also, chapter 11 of, 'The Lost Worlds of 2001', Arthur C. Clarke.
(which also references Sir Clarkes gifted HP 9100A calculator).

I only hope that the usage of the well-known "The quick brown fox... " string, in the film scene where HAL is being deprived of its memory boards is not an artifact of my... well, memory! :-)

#18

IIRC, they let him (? it? HAL!) sing "Hänschen klein" at that point in the synchronized German edition of that movie.

In the english version of "2001" in film, he (granted!) sings a very simple song named "Daisy", in the version with spanish voices the translation of HAL singing was not very good... However, the classic "quick brown fox" string appeared somehow as part of HAL's deconfiguration (sort of). I wonder if it appears in a printed version of the novel I read many years ago; in that case I mixed the printed and film versions.

Just checked: It appears in the book as well. In the German print they took "Fischers Fritz fischt frische Fische" instead :-)
