"searchable" as in they have been OCR'ed? Am I missing
something here -- do representative sample pages exist
for the DVD manuals to answer common questions like this?
Honestly, I do have trouble keeping up with my email sometimes but I have answered several emails from you including this one. Since they're not getting through, here's a quote from the scanning details section:
Quote:
Most applications pacs and User's Libraries were scanned at 300 dpi B&W (1 bit). Most Owner's Handbooks were scanned at 300 dpi 1 bit B&W or 200 dpi 4 bit gray scale. The latter gives similar text quality to 300 dpi B&W while also keeping complex color usage readable.
Manuals marked "Color" are generally made at 300 dpi. These scans were mostly made after 2006 to take advantage of today's larger media. Most of these scans were made at the museum with great care. After scanning, most pages were individually rotated, cropped, had major dust specs removed by hand, etc. This post-processing took much longer than the actual scanning. Many manuals were unbound to get the best scans.
The documents are OCR'd for searching but with the image is displayed so that any OCR errors don't damage the document.
By the way, it's not a common question. I don't remember anyone else asking it within the last couple of years at least. This compares to 5 emails in an average day asking how much someone should sell something for on ebay.
