You may be better off searching first and then posting questions about the 48GX at comp.sys.hp48
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.hp48/topics?lnk=gschg
This group is very knowledgable when it comes to the 48 family, but I would say prefers RPN calcs, collecting HP calcs, and discussing math, engineering and other trivia. The comp.sys.hp48 group is a much better resource if you are in school and/or just learning the 48 series.

Do you have the Quick Start Guide? That might help matters compared to the thick manual. If you have any specific questions, post them here, there are plenty of 48GX aficionados in this forum..

... I have the manual but it's so confusing to me...
You are not alone. I have been slowly learning my 48SX for about 2 years now. Some folks seem to pick up and learn how to use these 48/49/50 series models so easily, but for me they are not very intuitive to use, other than for some simple RPN math. Still, I press on, because of the power that these machines hold.
It seems to me the biggest initial hurdles were understanding that everything is an object, and everything is entered postfix, even STO and RCL.

For me understanding the VARS menu and the directories in the calculator really helped a lot (48gii but same thing or this discussion).
I have a directory that I call Junk where I sit when just mucking around in general. If I have a specific type of problem I'm working on then I will set up a directory and maybe even some sub directories and only go there when working on those problems. Otherwise, I find my list of variables gets unruly very quickly. I purge the junk directory regularly.
Have you worked with any other HP calculators in the past?
