Warning regarding a TAS auction

#2

I have decided to remove this post after receiving some hostile responses. It was not my intent to create discord on this forum; only to provide what I thought might be helpful information. If any of you are interested in what was posted, please send me a PM.

Thanks,

Michael

Would be an interesting study for psychologist who likes to figure out people remotely. As an amateur, it would appear that such a person is so arrogant that he cannot keep himself from insulting others, even if it is detrimental to his goal (as in trying to sell something).

A true con man, OTOH, would conceal his contempt.

Another interesting study: those who would "warn" others off an auction with unverifiable information.

Hi, Michael;

I´d guess that the 'unverifiable information' applies to the auction terms, not your warning.

If there is anything wrong, surely it is not in your intention to avoid some newbie to believe that the HP19C has an ink-based printer. How often do people try to warn others in such cases?

Cheers.

I see this as a likely case of miscommunication.

I think you were really pointing out a problem with his description that reads "the printing function also worked, though there wasn't ink." Since it uses thermal paper, it would seem that the printing function doesn't work and he should change the description.

The seller's response indicates that he didn't see the connection between your message and the inaccurate description. Without making that connection, he thought you were just pointing out some meaningless detail of the calculator, like the fact that it uses BCD. If he had any sense of professionalism, he would have written something like "I don't understand why you're telling me this" instead of his rude response.

So both your question and his response left out the main parts of the communication - that the description may be inaccurate and that the seller didn't understand why you were writing.

Of course, it *may* be that the printer simply doesn't have thermal paper in it. That would also cause it not to print.

Thermal paper is known to "fail" too - who knows how the paper/printer has been stored the last 30 years.
Might as well be that someone put normal paper in there.
I agree that the sellers respond would certainly put a full stop to any intention to bid :)

Why do you care so much about this particular auction? Who cares?

Caveat Emptor.
