I'm certain Monte's got a good handle on the project but I can imagine this type of enterprises are far from simple to execute and come to full blown term...

In the mean time I too dream of a 100x NUT CPU... and keep using V41 instead.

A prescient question... This is the week I plan to program the

FPGA and CPLD, connect the first prototype to a donor calc and

apply power. I have had the boards since before the first of

the year, but have been otherwise occupied.


The Flash memory is programmed with the OS and new code to

manage the expanded memory. I went through the OS and tagged

the sections that need to always run at 1x, so that's ready

to go (but the max speed is 50x, not 100x).


The "expanded functions", written in mcode, allow users to

"virtually" plug and unplug ROM images from the ports exactly

like it would be done physically, which was always my goal.


I hope to have a finished calc in time for HHC, even though I

may or may not be able to actually attend.


Thanks for asking. I wasn't sure that anyone was still

interested in the project. Had I been working on this full-

time it would ahve been done five years ago. Oh well.

I seriously think that if the project had moved forward right after its announcement at the HHC2004 conference in San Jose, Monte might have been able to work with HP and we might have an "HP41+" now instead of the meager HP35S. Just my fantasy on what might have been.
