Suggestions for HP41C

I was wondering what you would all consider a fair price for a good working HP-41C would be?

Also wondering the availability of the Machine Design, Stress Analysis pacs and the Mechanical Engineering, Physics and Fuild Dynamics Solution Books?

I'd be looking to acquire this over the course of my mechanical design program. So no real rush, I would be starting with the calculator though as the rest require it for use.

Many "fair price" discussions are found in the forum archives. Eventually, a "fair price" for an object depends on the buyer and his/her desire to own said object.

The pacs show up every once and a while on TAS. For the books, please find the answer here together with lots of other interesting information, saving you many bucks d:-). I strongly recommend this DVD if you're willing to read.

Thank you for the quick reply Walter. I've been watching Ebay so far, but I realize sometimes Ebay is not a clear indication of market value. Calculators are not like cars that have a "Blue Book" value making it easy to establish a base price and go from there.

Yes I know of the DVD, and it will be ordered shortly, just waiting on my paycheck. I hate running a balance on my credit card.

IMO, eB** is the best indicator of market value, with the proviso that the market is the worldwide universe of collectors and users who are "internet comfortable".

Of course there are many other markets, and eB** may indeed not be the best indicator for those markets.

I don't know, Ebay makes prices increase in my mind due to the ease of access for the items.

None the less my post is now more academic, ordered the HP DVD and a near new looking HP-41CV from Ebay.

Where buyer and seller can easily find each other, and can freely enter into a buy-sell agreement, and throw on top of that multiple transactions of similar items, to me that defines market value.

Hi Dimitri,

just finished to buy an HP41C via an e..y-auction. I was pretty lucky that the guy sold it as damaged, but it resulted to be in perfect condition. The seller obviously avoided to use the right kind of batteries and failed to test the 41 adequately.



The price for which I finally won the auction was 41.41 Euros - the only price for which an HP41 should be purchased - that is about $58.

I would estimate from my observations in the German area that the usual price for an 41C is about $150, for an 41CV about 200$, and for an 41CX about $350. All being in a fair mint condition.

Thank you for the reply, in Canadian dollars including shipping I got the HP-41CV for just under 200$ so I think I did good.

That is a pretty good deal for that calculator of yours!

I have seen a few on Ebay the last little while however I do not have one myself yet.

If yours stopped working check Ebay there are repair services available.

Hola Aldo Luis!

I would strongly recommend to look for a repair of the card reader. Typically, the gear roller is worn down after so many years, and a "new" card reader could develop the same problems.

If you look at the Repair Instructions for the 82104A Card Reader, you may feel encouraged to do it for yourself.

I have done this for myself, and thereafter the device was fine as ever before.

I purchased the Machine design module on its own. As well as a ROM card folder and memory card for my HP 41CV. I am getting there.
