Hi;

everyone of us know well how important is having this sort of source, even for sharing info. We know it well.

Eric´s provider wrote: If we can get 50 or 60 people to help out, then we won't be stuck with a (relatively) large bill ourselves. I want to help.

I will write him a mail offering help, I just want to know how to do it.

Is there anyone else?

There are some "paypal" links on the site now. The site is running to a degree, with downloads mostly turned off.

Paypal is a pretty painless way of contributing. However, if you have problems with that, email Eric and perhaps he could except a check. I'm not sure if he's set up for that. I think his paypal account will even except credit cards, but again, I'm not sure.

Thanks for helping.

It's not closed. It's shut down temporarily while we work on some problems. I've been hosting the site for almost a year, and until January when the other mirror went down, we had always been just under my 50G/month limit. A few days ago however, I was hit with a large bill for extra bandwidth charges. With only one mirror, I was getting about 90G of traffic per month (which would've been more, had I not taken some steps for bandwidth limiting).

We are working getting one or more other mirrors into operation. In the meantime however, I'd appreciate some help in paying off the bandwidth charges we were hit with. Both Eric and I put a fair amount of effort into providing the site, and I don't think that it is fair that we should also be stuck paying for everyone's use.

So if you appreciate the site, and would like to help, we'd certainly appreciate some help with the bill. We're not making any money from the site, just looking for some cost recovery on expenses that neither of us can really afford on a "free" site which we already work hard at maintaining.

I'm sure that we'll have the site back up soon. But I'm already over the 50G March limit (up to around 65G now) and it's only 2/3 of the way through the month.

So don't leave it up to the "next" guy. If you appreciate the site being there, help us out with the bill please. We're about 1/3 of the way through getting the bill paid off from donations so far, thanks to the generosity of some of you.

Cheers.

There are some IP addresses which have also been blocked from accessing the site. We've had warnings about the bandwidth issue for months now, and still some people have been ripping through the site with automated downloaders. The ones which I've caught have been locked out at the firewall.

So if you're one of those people, you won't be able to access the site to contribute by the paypal links. In that case, send an email to Eric (eric@hpcalc.org) to arrange some kind of contribution. Or you can send me email with your IP address, so I can take you out of the blacklist.

Thanks!
